Toys And Joys For Families, Volunteers In Warren
DEARBORN (WWJ) - Dozens of volunteers were on hand Wednesday to act as personal shoppers during the annual Salvation Army Warren Corps' toy and food giveaway.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Florence Walton spoke with Veronica Floyd, Volunteer Coordinator for Quicken Loans.
"In all the communities in Michigan there's a lot of peopel who need help," said Floyd. "This is my first time volunteering here at the Salvation Army and it's very rewarding seeing how much joy you can bring to someone's life just by the little things you can do."
Christina recently lost her job, recently got divorced and is now a single mother of three children.
"This Christmas we really focused on the meaning of the season, rather than the gifting, which we've been trying to draw them into up til now," she said. "So, this has actually been a huge blessing. Not only do they get to see the reason behind it but they can see the giving."
Christina's is one of about 1,000 pre-identified families who will pick up new toys and a box of food at the Salvation Army's Santa's Workshop in Warren.
