Toyota Recalls 82,200 SUVs
DETROIT (WWJ) - A new Toyota recall. The automaker said 45,500 Highlander Hybrid and 36,700 Lexus RX 400h models have problems with their control boards. The recall involves SUVs from Toyota's 2006 and 2007 lines.
Some transistors on the control boards were not soldered well enough and could be damaged from heat caused by a large current flow during high-load driving.
. In most cases, the vehicle enters a fail-safe driving mode, with less power but still allowing the vehicle to be driven for short distances. In limited instances, the power supply circuit fuse could blow, causing the hybrid system to shut down and the vehicle to coast to a stop.
Owners will be notified by mail in mid-July. Toyota said the company is working on obtaining the necessary replacement parts.
Once those parts have been produced in sufficient quantities, owners will be notified again via mail to make an appointment to bring their vehicle to an authorized Toyota dealer to have the control board inspected and, if necessary, replaced at no charge.
