Toyota Recall

Toyota has now begun the process of recalling more than 130 thousand Lexus vehicles in the United States.  The recall paperwork was filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Tuesday.

According to the NHTSA web site, the vehicles involved are various 2006-2008 model Lexus IS, GS and LS models.   Models built after 2008 are not involved, because by that time Toyota had put a fix into place at the factory.

Toyota says there is the possibility that foreign matter could cause the valve spring in the engine of these vehicles to break, causing the engine to fail, and the vehicle to stall in traffic.  There have been no reports of accidents or injuries.

Toyota says it expects to begin repairing the vehicles this month.

Toyota has promised to respond faster to safety issues.  The company is currently involved in recalls effecting 8.5 million vehicles worldwide.
