Tornado In Chesaning Part Of Weekend Storms
CHESANING (WWJ/AP) - The National Weather Service said a tornado was part of weekend storms that hit Michigan.
Meteorologist Dave Kook told The Saginaw News that a tornado swept through Chesaning on Saturday afternoon.
The 100-yard-wide tornado packing 80 mph winds traveled about 3 miles. Kook said damage was mostly to large trees and an overturned trailer.
Chesaning is located about 75 miles northwest of Detroit.
A Saturday evening of vicious weather knocked out power to tens of thousands of customers around the state.
Early Monday, about 8,000 homes and businesses were still without power in Metro Detroit. A DTE spokesman said they expect to have most customers restored by the end of the day.
