Tom Izzo Or Bill Laimbeer To Coach The Pistons?
By: Terry Foster
Bill Laimbeer?
Tom Izzo?
Let's say the Pistons job came down to a two horse race and President Joe Dumars was deciding between his former Bad Boys teammate or one of the best coaches in the United States. My choice would be Laimbeer.
This isn't to say this is the case. My guess is none of these two will get the job, but they are the two guys most Pistons fans talk about taking over the team. There are a lot of people that want Laimbeer. There are a lot that do not want him. It is the same with Michigan State coach Tom Izzo.
My choice is Laimbeer because he is a better professional coach. He has experience as an NBA assistant and he has shown he can head up his own program in the WNBA. He played in the league and knows the league better.
His problem is patience and a disposition that could lose players.
Izzo is a college coach and I do not trust he can make that transition in time to make the Pistons a winner. He is also in a better position at MSU where he could win a National Championship with the Spartans. Unless Izzo needs the money, he should stay at MSU. He is a better college coach and he is still building a legacy there.
Izzo would also have to alter his football mentality, which he understands and said he would do if he became an NBA coach.
Still, my pick is Laimbeer.
