Tips, Technology Help Detectives ID Alleged Mt. Clemens Bank Robber
MT. CLEMENS (WWJ) - Authorities say help from the public and computer software led to the arrest of a Macomb County bank robber in Detroit.
Kenneth Foster Ardis, 50, was taken into custody by a fugitive apprehension task force on Friday — two days after police say he got away with a bag of cash from a Talmer Bank branch on North Main St. in downtown Mt. Clemens.
Investigators say Ardis walked into the bank, just before 1 p.m. Wednesday, and passed a note to the teller demanding money. He implied he had a gun, officials said, but no weapon was seen.
There were very clear images of the man that taken by the bank's security cameras; and, after receiving several tips, detectives were able to using facial recognition software to quickly identify the suspect.
Ardis, who is a Detroit resident, was arraigned in 41B District Court on Monday on charge of bank robbery.
He was given a $500,000 cash-or-surety bond and he remains in the Macomb County Jail pending his next court date set for Wednesday, April 13.
Ardis faces up to life in prison if convicted.
