Tips Sought To Catch Violent Fugitive Believed To Be Hiding Out In Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - Police and Crime Stoppers are looking for tips to catch a fugitive believed to be "hiding out" in Detroit.
Michigan State Police say 36-year-year old Fontaine Berrien is a parole absconder with a violent past — now wanted on aggravated felonious assault and kidnapping charges.
In April, Berrien allegedly assaulted and kidnapped a woman, threatening to kill her. Police said the victim was able to escape when Berrien threw her from a moving vehicle on I-696, near Ryan Road in Warren.
Berrien is described as a black male, around 5 feet, 9 inches tall and 175 lbs. He has tattoos on the back and on both sides of his neck.
MSP Lt. Mike Shaw says Berrien should be considered dangerous.
"He knows that he's gonna go back to prison, so he's going to be very hard to catch; he's going to be on the run," Shaw said.
As always, citizens are not urged not to approach the fugitive but instead call 911.
Anyone who has seen Berrien or who may have information regarding his whereabouts is urged to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. Alternatively, tipsters can text CSM and the tip to 274637 (CRIMES) or email the Michigan State Police Fugitive Team directly at princew@michigan.gov.
Cash rewards are available through Crime Stoppers.
