Tips Sought In Murder Of Elderly Woman, Disabled Son
DETROIT (WWJ) - A $2,500 reward is being offered for tips leading to an arrest in the case of an elderly woman and her disabled son, murdered in their home.
The evening of July 20 — on Holmur Street near Livernois on Detroit's west side — 71-year-old Frances Herron and her 34-year-old son Jason, a paraplegic, were killed.
With the help of Crime Stoppers of Michigan, the family hopes someone can help find whomever is responsible for this brutal crime.
At a media conference Wednesday, Crime Stoppers-Michigan spokesman Anthony Jones described Frances Herron as someone who was passionate about caring for others.
And, he sad, Jason wasn't going to let the accident that left him dependent on a wheelchair, cripple his life.
"He spent a great deal of time writing raps and poetry. He was also in the process of collecting footage for a documentary that would highlight his life," Jones said.
Herron's niece, Kim Marshall, said there's little information available about at this point.
"It was someone they knew, apparently," she said, "because they let them in. There was no sign of forced entry. They were both brutally murdered in the house."
Marshall said it was a neighbor, that day, who sensed something was wrong.
"They had tried to knock on the door; I guess to get in touch with my cousin and my aunt — and no one answered," Marshall said. "The lady eventually left and then got worried and came back and called police."
