Tips Sought In Execution-style Murder Of Macomb County Couple

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police and family members hope a cash reward will help solve the execution-style murders of a young Macomb County couple.  Rosemary Chyz, 19, of Clinton Township and her boyfriend Tony Velez, 22, of Sterling Heights were found dead on the afternoon of October 24 in a field near Mount Elliot and Van Dyke on Detroit's east side.

Both had been tied up and shot multiple times.

In a news conference Thursday, Detroit Police shared what is known about what happened the night before.

"At about 10:30 p.m. they traveled to the city in a gray 2000 Chevy Impala and went to the area of Alter and Mack Avenue," said Detroit Homicide Investigator Don Olson.

Around an hour later, their car was found burning about two blocks east of the old Packard plant.

Clutching a high school graduation day photo of her son and wiping away, Tony's mother Lisa Puma pleaded for someone to come forward with answers.

"Even if you didn't know Tony was in a room you'd know he was there. He just lit everybody's life up," said Puma. "I know you know you need to come forward. I know you're scared but you have answers and we need answers."

Chyz was attending Macomb Community College and working at the Buckle at Lakeside Mall. She had dreams of becoming a physical therapist. Velez graduated from Sterling Height's Henry Ford II High School in 2007 was working in electronics sales. The pair had been dating for two years.

Crime Stoppers of Michigan is offering a cash reward of up to $2,500 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone who has information regarding the crime should call Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-SPEAK-UP or 1-800-773-2587. All calls and cash rewards are completely anonymous.
