Tips Sought In Cab Driver's Murder
DETROIT (WWJ) - Crime Stoppers and the family of a slain taxi driver are pleading with the public to help solve his murder.
Eastpointe mother of three Delores McQueen-Miller can't quite wrap her mind around the fact that someone murdered her son for the few dollars he may have had in his cab on the morning Tuesday, Oct. 16, while he waited at a Mobile gas station on Detroit's east side for his first scheduled fair of the day.
"I'm going through a lot right now. I can't eat; I can't sleep. I'm already grieving over my husband. He passed away in December," she said.
McQueen-Miller said he eldest son, Jawan, was helping her cope and now he's been taken away from her, too.
She's asking the mothers of the three suspect ... "to ask their child to come forward -- to face up to the crime that they committed."
Police said Jawan McQueen was fatally shot during an attempted robbery on Conner and Harper, near I-94. One of the three suspects was also shot, according to Detroit Police Sgt. Eren Stephens who said a trail of blood that didn't appear to be the victim's was left behind at the scene.
McQueen's younger brother Davey Thomas told WWJ's Pat Sweeting the scene was described to him by one of a couple of prostitutes in the area at the time. "They didn't wanna come forward (to the authorities) and that's what they mentioned to me," he said, adding that he hopes one of those women will have a change of heart and talk to the police.
The suspects were described only as black males dressed in dark clothing.
A $2,5000 reward is being offered for a tip leading to an arrest in the case.
