Tips Sought After Teen Jogger Hurt In Hit-And-Run On Mound Road
WASHINGTON TWP. (WWJ) - Macomb County Sheriff's officials are looking for a pickup truck driver who hit a teenager running and then fled the scene.
The 15-year-old jogger — who suffered a broken leg and other injuries— told deputies he was running on the shoulder of Mound Rd., near 31 Mile Rd. in Washington Township, when he was hit from behind at around 7 p.m. Wednesday.
A witness told authorities she saw the truck swerve, striking something, and she "saw something fly up into the air."
She told deputies that the truck continued on as though nothing had happened, and she stopped to help the teen.
The witness could only describe the vehicle as an "older" pickup truck, possibly a Ford. She could not tell what color the vehicle was, but thought it might have "off-road" type lights on its roof.
Detectives recovered some parts from the truck at the scene and were trying to determine the make and model.
The teen, who underwent surgery, remained hospitalized Thursday.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or who has any information about the wanted vehicle or driver is asked to call the Macomb County Sheriff's Office at 586-307-9412.
