Time Magazine Notes Work Of Detroit-Native Doctor
DETROIT (WWJ) - He's a candidate for Time Magazine's "100 Most Influential People in the World" -- and he's from Detroit.
Dr. James Downing is Scientific Director at St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis Tennessee.
The native Detroiter's groundbreaking research, titled the "Pediatric Cancer Genome Project," garnered the attention of Time.
"The discoveries that have come out of that are better than I have ever imagined," Downing said. "Every single pediatric cancer we've looked at we've made new fundamental insights into the kinds of mutations that are driving those cancers.
"They're going to change the way we diagnose these cancers; the way we sort of decide how best to treat the patients," he said.
Dr. Downing will make the magazine's "Top 100" list if he gets enough votes.
