Tigers Win Spring Training Opener
DUNEDIN, Fla. (WWJ) - The Detroit Tigers opened the 2011 Spring Training season by shutting out the Toronto Blue Jays 4-0 in Dunedin, Florida.
Second baseman Scott Sizemore lead the way going 2 for 3, including a huge two run double in the top of the fifth inning that scored catcher Alex Avila and outfielder Austin Jackson.
At that point, the Tigers had a 4-0 lead which proved to be the final score.
Phil Coke got the start and the win today for the Tigers working 2 innings, allowing only one hit, and one strike out.
Duane Below, Al Alberquerque, Brendan Wise, John Bale, and Robbie Weinhardt all followed Coke working nor more than two innings.
First baseman Ryan Strieby had an RBI single scoring outfielder Ryan Raburn in the fourth inning, while third baseman Brandon Inge scored a run in the second inning. The team's offense combined for eight hits and four runs, while the pitching limited Toronto to only five hits.
The Tigers are now 1-0 this Spring and battle the Blue Jays once again Sunday afternoon in Dunedin, 1:05pm is the scheduled first pitch.
