Tigers Stomp On Braves 18-3
LAKELAND (WWJ/AP) - A home run fest for the Tigers in Lakeland silencing the Atlanta Braves 18-3 on Sunday.
Eight Detroit Tigers combined to hit nine home runs in the Joker Marchant exhibition home opener rout of the Braves.
Fielder, the Tigers big free agent acquisition this winter, got in on the home run action hitting a fly ball to right field in the third inning. Tigers teammate Ryan Raburn hit two home runs, including a grand slam.
Atlanta pitcher Julio Teheran was tagged for six home runs in just two innings.
With a strong wind blowing out to right field, the Tigers teed off against Teheran. Competing for a spot in the Braves' rotation, he allowed a total of six hits, all of them home runs.
Max Scherzer made his spring debut for the Tigers and allowed three hits in two scoreless innings. Closer Jose Valverde pitched a shutout inning.
