Story Book Ending; Tigers Win In Extra Innings 10-8
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Miguel Cabrera caps a five-run 10th inning with a two-run homer and the Detroit Tigers rally to beat the Cleveland Indians 10-8 on Sunday - sweeping the weekend series.
As heard on 97. 1 The Ticket - Detroit was down by three runs with two-out in the bottom of the 10th and came back in story book fashion to score five-runs and win the game.
The Tigers failed to take advantage of a no-out triple by Austin Jackson as the Indians ended the ninth inning with a double play between home plate and first base, after Omar Infante struck out for the first out of the inning.
Cleveland has lost nine straight, and this one slipped away in unthinkable fashion. With two outs and nobody on - and the Indians up 8-5 - Chris Perez (0-3) walked Alex Avila and pinch-hitter Andy Dirks. Austin Jackson doubled home a run, and Omar Infante's two-run single tied it.
Cabrera followed with a towering drive that eventually cleared the fence in left-center. Detroit never had the lead before then.
Travis Hafner and Ezequiel Carrera had hit back-to-back solo homers for Cleveland in the 10th.
Detroit's Darin Downs (1-0) earned his first career win.
