Tigers Ready To Welcome Martinez Back
DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Tigers have optioned catcher Omir Santos to Triple-A Toledo, making room for Victor Martinez to return from the disabled list for Wednesday night's game against the New York Yankees.
Martinez has been out since April 18 because of a strained right groin, but the Tigers say they will activate him Wednesday. Detroit snapped a seven-game losing streak Tuesday with a 4-2 win over New York.
Santos has had only five at-bats with the Tigers this season. Martinez, acquired in the offseason to be the designated hitter, hit .250 with two homers in 60 at-bats before going on the DL.
