Tigers Place Zimmermann On 15-Day DL, Will Start Sanchez In His Place
DETROIT (CBS Detroit) -- The Detroit Tigers have placed starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 1, as he deals with a right neck strain.
Anibal Sanchez will start in Zimmermann's place in Cleveland against the Indians on Tuesday. The Tigers also recalled pitcher Dustin Molleken from Triple-A Toledo on Monday.
Zimmerman began the season as one of baseball's best pitchers, but regressed in June, posting a 6.43 ERA and an .880 OPS against in six starts.
Traditionally a starter, Sanchez was moved to the bullpen after a rough start to the season. He has a 6.71 ERA and a 1.65 WHIP in 12 starts this season.
Molleken has worked primarily out of the bullpen for the Mud Hens this season, recording a 3.45 ERA.
