DETROIT (CBS Detroit) And here it is.
The Detroit Tigers officially unveiled their lineup for the pivotal game four of the ALCS as the team struggles to catch up to the Red Sox, who lead the series 2-1.
Tonight's lineup is: Torii Hunter; Miguel Cabrera; Prince Fielder; Victor Martinez; Jhonny Peralta; Alex Avila; Omar Infante; Austin Jackson, and Jose Iglesias. Doug Fister will be on the mound.
What did Terry Foster and Mike Valenti make of it on their show Wednesday on 97.1 The Ticket?
"Talk about an empty bottom of the order," Valenti said, adding, "This lineup is very ... you can call it desperate, call it bold."
The fact that Fielder is not batting fifth must means there's something in his contract that won't let him bat below fourth, Foster said.
"It makes no sense to me that your best players are hitting behind Prince Fielder, it doesn't make sense to me," Foster said.
He added he applauds manager Jim Leyland for the shakeup, but doesn't understand why Fielder is batting at his position. Cabrera and Fielder both struck out swinging in the eighth inning of the game three loss to Boston.
Verlander pitched another stellar playoff game, allowing just one run through eight innings of game three and striking out 10 to bring his total to 31 post-season strikeouts.
