Tigers' Fielder, Boesch Bat 1,000 In 11-1 Romp Over Florida Southern
LAKELAND, FLA. (CBS Detroit) - The Tigers' Prince Fielder is batting 1,000 -- literally -- after he came out swinging in his first pre-season game against Florida Southern at Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Fla. The Tigers won 11-1.
Fielder had one at-bat, where he hit a double that brought in Brandon Boesch. Boesch also got a double in his only at-bat in the game.
Detroit got off to a hot start against Florida Southern, posting two runs in the first inning, before piling on another six in the seventh inning. The team scored twice in the sixth and once in the fourth.
Notably, the Detroit Free Press reported Austin Jackson started off the game for Florida Southern in a face-off against none other than Austin Jackson. That's right, the Tigers' Jackson faced Florida Southern's Jackson, a junior right-hander from Deltona, Fla.
Florida's Jackson won the first face-off when Detroit's Jackson grounded out.
