Tigers Fever Sweeping Metro Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - The Detroit Tigers begin their quest for the World Series Friday in New York against the Yankees. And with the regular season over, Tigers fans are brimming with confidence.
At GameDay Detroit just steps away from Comerica Park, manager Steven Rochon is anticipating great things from the home team. "Definitely really excited down here. This is our first time we've been down here for a playoff series, so we're expecting big things down here and hopefully they don't disappoint us," says Rochon.
And he's been selling a lot of the Division Championship hats and hoodies that the team wears in the locker room. "They started wearing the sweatshirt within the last couple of nights," he says. And Rochon hopes to be able to sell all of them.
The Detroit Tigers, as well as the undefeated Lions have been the toast of the town. Along northbound I-75 between Eight and Nine Mile is a billboard with a snarling tiger and lion that reads 'Beware of Cats.'
Tow truck driver Satall Vahere says both teams are making a lot of people smile. "The town is happy because they go that far...," he says, adding, "...maybe this year, you know, they're good. I hope so, they been a long time." And people are not afraid to expect the Tigers back in the World Series with one man bold enough to tell WWJ that they'll take it all.
Games one and two are in New York. The series comes to Detroit on Monday.
