Tigers Fans Hold Out Hope
DETROIT (WWJ) - The winner moves on, the loser goes home. It's game five between the Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees Thursday night in the AL Divisional playoffs. And diehard fans aren't giving up as the Tigers play what could be their final game of the season.
Shawn Dunford of Westland tells WWJ that he thinks the Tigers can win tonight because of their pitcher. "We got Doug Fister and in Fister we trust."
Scott Hutton of West Bloomfield also thinks the Tigers have a good shot. "We've won in New York before and usually when a team scores that many runs like they did against us, they don't come out and do that the next game," he says - for those who believe in sports lore.
For another fan, it's simple. "Swing a bat, that's all they got to do, swing a bat."
Michael Hackel of Royal Oak says no matter what happens he's still a Tigers fan and is trying to keep his hopes up. "We had the upper hand, we had home field and we lost it. So there's nothing really we can say now, we just got to hope and pray that we take care of it in New York."
And, Detroit Mayor Dave Bing says, "I watched the game like most of us here and was heartbroken, but I haven't given up. I mean it's one more game, it's a one game series. They won in New York, they can win again in New York."
Tigers fan John Smith adds, "It isn't over until the fat lady sings as they say, so let's just hope for all of us that we get it done."
Game 5 of the ALDS between the Tigers and Yankees is scheduled to begin at 8pm Thursday.
