Tigers Fall Flat Against Twins In 9-3 Loss

MINNEAPOLIS (WWJ/AP) - Eighteen hits by the Twins just too much as the Detroit Tigers lose to Minnesota  9-3 on Monday.

As heard on 97.1 The Ticket - on a night the Tigers could have made up some ground with the AL Central leading Chicago White Sox, who lost to the Toronto Blue Jays, the Tigers fail to connect against the Twins, and fall two games behind Chicago.

Darin Mastroianni and Ryan Doumit each homered and drove in three runs, Samuel Deduno baffled the struggling Tigers for seven innings as the Minnesota Twins snapped a four-game losing streak with the big win over Detroit.

Deduno (4-0) held the Tigers hitless through four innings and retired nine of 10 batters before getting into trouble in the eighth. The 29-year-old pitcher struck out six and remained undefeated in seven career starts.

Doumit broke it open with a three-run homer off reliever Duane Below that made it 8-1 in the seventh.

Tigers pitcher Anibal Sanchez was hoping for a different outcome in his fourth start with the Tigers but certainly didn't get help offensively as the Tigers were outhit by the Twins 18-6.

Detroit has has lost three straight and five of six games, as difficulty scoring on the road continues to plague the Tigers.

Miguel Cabrera provided the highlight getting his 99th RBI for the Tigers.
