Tigers Announce Staff Additions To Baseball Operations Department

DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers today announced that the club has hired Mike Russell as a Special Assistant to the General Manager, while the team has also hired Jim Logue as Manager, Baseball Analytics.

Russell, who recently completed his 28th season in professional baseball, returns to the Tigers organization after spending the two previous seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks as a Special Assistant to Baseball Operations. In his role with Arizona, Russell oversaw the team's pro scouting department and advised on player trades and acquisitions.

Prior to Arizona, Russell worked on the Tigers major league scouting staff from 2002-14, primarily scouting National League Eastern Division teams and players, which aided in the acquisition of Miguel Cabrera from the Florida Marlins in 2007.

Russell, who was inducted into the Professional Baseball Scouts Hall of Fame in 2013, started his professional career with the San Francisco Giants as an area supervisor from 1988-89. He also served as a recruiting coordinator for the University of Tennessee in 1990, before returning to the Giants as a national cross checker from 1991-93. Russell also had stints with the Toronto Blue Jays from 1994-96 as an area supervisor and Latin America scout and with the Florida Marlins from 1996-2001 as an area supervisor and special assignment scout.

Russell and his wife, Jodi, have a daughter, Katie, and reside in Gulf Breeze, FL.

Logue joins the Tigers after working in a variety of roles with the New York Yankees since 2007. Logue most recently was the Yankees' Senior Analyst, Quantitative Analysis. In his role with the Yankees, Logue created predictive analytics to support all aspects of baseball operations decision making.

Logue graduated from Amherst College in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in economics with a concentration in mathematics.
