DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A three-run homer by Alex Avila put the Detroit Tigers within one run as they rally to beat the Minnesota Twins 8-4 on Friday night.
As heard on 97.1 The Ticket - The Tigers fell behind 4-0 early in the game but scored eight unanswered runs to finish on top for their seventh straight win.
Avila hit his three-run homer in the second inning and Ramon Santiago added a two-run shot in the fourth to help the first place Tigers win their 17th of 21 games.
Brad Penny (10-10) allowed four runs in the top of the first but settled down after that and Detroit was able to slug its way back from the early deficit.
Kevin Slowey (0-5) allowed six runs and seven hits in four innings.
Penny allowed four runs and five hits in five innings.
The Twins have lost six of seven and 15 of 19.
