MINNEAPOLIS (WWJ/AP) - No home runs for the Tigers but plenty of doubles help Detroit beat the Minnesota Twins 10-6 on Friday night.
As heard on 97.1 The Ticket - the Tigers, who are coming off of a sweep by the Cleveland Indians fell behind early but came back with four runs in the second inning to go up by two runs against the Twins.
Doubles by Brennan Boesch, Prince Fielder, Delmon Young, and two by Alex Avila keep the Tigers in the game when the Twins refused to go home quietly.
Fielder's day totaled three hits and two RBIs and aided the struggling Tigers offense.
Avila drove in three runs on the two doubles, Drew Smyly (2-1) gave up four runs - three earned - on six hits in five innings and Boesch added three hits and two RBIs for the Tigers, who bounced back from a three-game sweep at the hands of AL Central-leading Cleveland.
Denard Span had three hits for the Twins, who got another poor outing from their starting pitcher. Anthony Swarzak (0-4) gave up six runs on nine hits in 3 2-3 innings in his first start since April 19.
