Tiger Greats Back On The Field At Wayne State University
DETROIT (WWJ) - The calendar may say December, but it's still baseball season in Detroit. A couple of former Detroit Tiger greats will join Wayne State University for the second straight year in hosting baseball camps on Saturday. Ryan Kelley is Wayne State's head baseball coach.
"There's probably about 225 participants who have signed up for the camp. Alan Trammel and Lance Parrish, our Wayne State coaching staff and our entire Wayne State baseball team will be serving as instructors and coordinating the entire camp and giving great feedback and lessons to the kids," Kelly said.
Kelley says the morning camp session runs from 9 until noon and stresses fundamentals, including catching, hitting, bunting, throwing and speed. It's open to kids in grades two through 12. There's also an afternoon high school prospects camp for students in grades 9 through 12.
Do the kids know who Tramell and Parrish are?
"I think they have some familiarity because their parents who are driving them to the camp talk to them about it. But the kids getting here have a great time. I think they not only enjoy learning from Trammel and Parrish, but also our entire Wayne State baseball team. I know the parents and family members get a great thrill out of seeing the two former great Tigers," Kelly said.
