Three bottom-line reasons the Red Wings' loss Thursday is on goalie Jimmy Howard:
1. You will not win in the NHL, especially during the playoffs, stopping just 85 percent of the shots.
2. San Jose's fourth and - what ultimately proved to be the deciding goal - came on an unscreened shot along the ice from in close, and on an angle, through the 5-hole. By definition, that's a soft goal.
3. When the Sharks had their onslaught in the first period, Howard didn't come up with the big saves. Those are the times when an elite goalie steps forward, not backward, and carries his team.
