Thousands Remain Without Power After Strong Storms
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - It's going to be another busy weekend for DTE Energy crews. About 24,000 metro area customers are without power Saturday morning, following two waves of severe weather. That's down from a peak of 145,000 customers who were knocked off-line.
Randi Berris, DTE Energy spokesperson, said most of the outages are in Oakland County.
As of 11 a.m. Sunday, DTE Energy has restored power to 120,000 customers who were impacted by thunderstorms and high winds that blew across southeast Michigan Friday, knocking down hundreds of power lines and trees.
Approximately 24,000 customers remain out of service, and we estimate 90 percent will have their power restored by Sunday night.
The majority of the outages are in:
Oakland: 8,000
Wayne: 7,000
Macomb: 6,000
The remainder are scattered throughout southeast Michigan.
Berris said workers are doing everything they can to restore services.
"Crews are working around the clock to restore power. DTE crews are being helped by crews from other states as well, from Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania, and we thank our friends there for coming here to help us out," she said.
DTE is constantly updating a power outage map to show residents where to expect the worst. Click here to check the map.
