Thousands Of Cars Damaged Or Totaled By Flood Waters
STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) - Many cars have been damaged or destroyed by Monday's flooding, including several at a Sterling Heights apartment complex, Laurel Valley, on Dequindre at 15 1/2 Mile Road. Shankar Dahal says the rains came quickly.
"When we noticed that our car is almost submerged on, up to the wheel , when I come and I was able to save one of my car driving into the curve. Now it is good, but I was not able to save the other one and there water was up to the handle," he said.
Dahal says insurance should cover his 2012 Nissan Sentra, but it's inconvenient being down to one car.
"I had to drop my wife to the work and I have to go there to pick her ... I mean the insurance company provide me a rental car, but I need to wait to get that car til coming Monday, so life is hard," said Dahal.
Sreenavasa Kodoru lost his 2014 Honda Accord in the parking lot of his apartment complex on Dequindre at 15 1/2 Mile.
Kodoru believes his insurance will cover the car, but says he's working from home until he can get a rental car.
"Once I came out from my apartment almost, water was there maybe three -fifty , four inches almost. My up to that time up to mirror level , it came water. It went inside, complete flood."
Several cars in the complex were also damaged by flood waters.
