Thousands In Reward Money Raised To Help Find Detroit Firefighter's Killer

DETROIT (WWJ) - Reward money is being raised in the case of a Detroit firefighter who was found beaten to death in his home last week.

A gofundme page, set up by a fellow Detroit firefighter, has collected more than $5,700 for the tipster who leads police to Dave Madrigal's murderer.

A note posted to the page reads: "OK Facebook, my Detroit firefighters, other fire departments all over the country and now my softball family please help me reach my goal to find the killer or killers of my brother Super Dave, to bring them to justice. If you can only do five or ten dollars to this cause would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you in advance. -  Verdine Day."

Hundreds of family and friends said their final farewells to Madrigal at a funeral service Monday in Garden City.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner said the 59-year old, who was with the Detroit Fire Department for 25 years, died from blunt force trauma to the head.  The death was ruled a homicide.

Friends said Madrigal was assigned to Engine 33 and had planned on retiring this June.

Anyone who has information about Madrigal's murder is asked to call Detroit police homicide investigators at 313-596-2260 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
