Things Getting Back To Normal Following Southfield Power Outage
SOUTHFIELD, MIch. (WWJ) - A big power outage in Southfield had people groping through the chilly darkness Wednesday morning.
The outage occurred following an early-morning crash on 12 Mile Road near Franklin. It took out the power to about 2,300 customers -- basically the entire southwest corner of 12 Mile and Telegraph, where a gas station, car dealership, and several businesses were left in the dark. WWJ's Ron Dewey -- reporting live from the scene -- says it was as pitch dark there as the night itself; very unusual if you travel through that area.
Dewey was talking with Rick Gould over at the Cloverleaf Sunoco. Gould told Dewey he had the doors locked for the first time ever, really, in his 24/7 operation.
"Went out at 4," Gould said, "and they got the street lights back on around 4:30, and I guess they said DTE would be around 9:30, 10:00, but I venture to say it'll be earlier."
"Like right now," Dewey said.
"You see that," Gould responded. "You know something, WWJ Newsradio 950 is on the scene, once again when something happens."
And right at that moment, the lights came back on and everything began getting back to normal.
