Thieves Drive Van Through Front Doors Of Emagine Canton Theater, Attempt To Steal ATM

CANTON (WWJ) -- Police say two suspects drove a van through the front doors of the Emagine Theater on Ford Rd. in Canton on Monday morning.

Police said two suspects got out of the van early Monday morning and tried to steal the ATM in the lobby. They couldn't pick it up, got back in the van and took off.

The manager was inside the business when a Ford van was driven through the front doors of the business and caused extensive damage to the front entry doors.

Canton Police Sergeant Ed Johnson said there was a night person on duty at the theater when the van came crashing through the front doors.

"They were just unsuccessful at getting it," Johnson said. "I think probably, partially, due to the fact that they were probably just as startled by somebody being inside the building as he was with them being inside the building."

Canton detectives are looking for the suspects now and the case is currently under investigation by the Canton Detective Bureau.

"There's probably about a 40-foot size hole in the door at the entryway and several doors were damaged in the process," Johnson said.

Johnson said that police have some good leads on the theater surveillance tape and there were no injuries. The incident delayed the opening of the theater by about two hours.
