The CW50 Street Team Walks for Autism Speaks
Hundreds of people walked for a cause to bring awareness to Autism at Kensington Metropark. The CW50 Street Team joined walkers at the 10th Annual Walk Now for Autism Speaks. The yearly event focuses on raising money and awareness for those people who have autism.
CBS 62's very own Weather Meteorologist Jim Madaus and Sports Reporter Heather Park served as emcees for the event. We brought along three of CW50's favorite superheroes, Arrow, Supergirl and The Flash, they had fun taking pictures with all of their fans.
There were information booths set-up to give walkers a chance to learn more about autism and the various organizations that are in southeastern Michigan that offer support and guidance.
Teams from all over Michigan have spent countless hours fundraising for Autism Speaks. Several Alpha Xi Delta chapters including Albion College, Western Michigan University, Alma College and Eastern Michigan University raised over $2,000 for the walk.
"1 in 3 people know someone personally who is affected with autism and this event is great because it brings the whole community together to raise awareness," said Lexy, who was volunteering on behalf of her sorority Alpha Xi Delta at EMU.
Many people at the event explained that autism has an impact on so many families across the United States and everyone has a different story.
Jason Devenbagh walks for his son, who was diagnosed with autism a couple of years ago. This year Devenbagh serves as part of the Autism Speaks Committee, he has a passion for raising awareness.
The CW50 Street Team along with our superheroes had a fantastic time walking for a great cause. We can't wait to be back next year to support Autism Speaks.
