Telegraph Road A Mess After Gravel Truck Overturns
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - There was a lot of sand, but it was no day at the beach for thousands of commuters traveling Telegraph Road in Southfield Monday morning.
Both directions were tied up between 12 and 13 Mile Roads after an overturned gravel hauler spilled sand all over the southbound lane, and downed power lines shut down the northbound lanes.
Crews spent hours cleaning up the sand and uprighting the fractured tractor-trailer, after police said car cut into the path of the hauler, which flipped when it swerved trying to avoid a collision.
WWJ's Ron Dewey spoke with Flo Hoyt, who was arriving for work at nearby Retina Eye Specialist Center.
"I was walking in the back of the building and I heard this screeching noise; and then I heard something like metal scraping the ground, and I'm like, 'Oh my goodness,'" said Hoyt.
"Our patients aren't going to be able to get it," she said. "It's a good thing that we only have one doctor in — we usually have three — so that's a good thing."
No injuries were reported.
