Teens in Detroit Jobs Program to Learn Financial Literacy
DETROIT (AP) — About 130 teens participating in a Detroit summer employment program also will learn about personal financial literacy.
Bank of America's Grow Detroit's Young Talent Financial Education Summit will be held Wednesday morning at several locations.
The bank says that mentoring, job shadowing, teaching better money habits and other volunteer opportunities give teens valuable perspective and vision about what it means to be employed, how to manage a paycheck and the kinds of job opportunities that exist.
More than 8,000 young people ages 14 to 24 are receiving training, on-the-job experiences, professional contacts and exposure to potential career paths as part of the city's Grow Detroit's Young Talent program.
Most participants are working 20 hours per week at more than 500 sites with companies of various sizes.
