Teens Face Felony Charges After 'Vandalism Spree'
WATERFORD (WWJ) - Two young people from Waterford were arraigned on felony charges after allegedly causing thousands of dollars worth of damage during a vandalism spree.
Police say 19-year-old Collin Fler and 17-year-old Marissa Long are facing three counts each of malicious destruction of property.
According to investigators, a resident on Clinton River Drive discovered graffiti spray painted on his garage door around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday. About two hours later, the resident said he went outside to investigate after hearing noises and saw a white male subject, Fler, near his car in the driveway. Fler reportedly started to run when he was approached by the resident, who eventually tackled Fler and called the police.
After arresting Fler, responding officers were canvassing the area for additional suspects, when they found and arrested Long and a 15-year-old male, who were sitting in a nearby vehicle.
Detectives say the group initially targeted former relationships by spray-painting on their homes and vehicles, and the maliciousness eventually extended beyond to unrelated victims. They said numerous vehicles, homes, garages, mailboxes and a tree were spray-painted with graffiti.
Spray paint damage has been reported on Embarcadero Street, Lockwood Drive, Birchwood, Clinton River Drive, Juneberry and Heritage Park Apartments. Investigators believe there may be more damages reported as homeowners return home.
Fler was jailed on a $150,000 cash bond and Long is jailed on a $7,500 10% cash bond. A petition has been submitted to the Oakland County Probate Court for the 15-year-old, who is also from Waterford.
