Teenager Hurt While Hood Surfing On Friend's Car
PONTIAC (WWJ/AP) - A 15-year-old Detroit area boy has been hurt while hood surfing on the final day of school before summer vacation.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said the incident occurred around 9:15 a.m. Friday on Stockwell Street just south of Howard Street, near US-24 in Pontiac
Police said a 16-year-old student was exiting the parking lot across from the Pontiac Academy of Excellence when a 15-year-old classmate jumped on the hood of his car.
The driver then turned out of the parking lot onto Stockwell and accelerated to approximately 30 mph, according to witnesses. As the driver slowed for the upcoming stop sign at Howard, the 15-year-old fell off the hood and was run over by the vehicle, police said.
The teen, who suffered head and arm injuries along with a broken leg, was transported to McLaren Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
Police say the accident remains under investigation.
