Teen Murdered 5 Years Ago, Family Pleads For Tips In Cold Case
DETROIT (WWJ) - It's been five years since 15-year-old Marcel Sims was shot and killed on the city's east side ... but his family has not given up hope on finding his killer.
Tuesday the family made a plea to the public for help in the case.
WWJ's Marie Osborne reports that on July 18, 2008, Sims and a group of friends went to a party at the American Serbian Memorial Hall on Van Dyke near Outer Drive.
He told his mother Nina Wilson that he was going there with friends but shortly after he arrived, those friends say they wanted to leave because they didn't feel comfortable.
Sims was shot in the back that night. His mom said 100 people were at that party and no one has come forward.
"And no one has spoken up ... that's crazy to me - obvious he must not have been too much of a friend. If you have not said anything and that is crazy to me," she said.
His grieving mom thinks about what could have been: "No grandchildren, no daughter-in-fair, no high school diploma, no college degrees - nothing because somebody decided they wanted to shoot that night - and shoot my son in the back," she said.
