Teen Driver Hits Another Vehicle; 2 Siblings Die
BERLIN TWP. (WWJ) - Two children are dead, after their 18-year-old sister lost control of her car and struck an oncoming vehicle.
Monroe County Sheriff's Deputies say the car driven by Iris Wagenaar of South Rockwood was moving at a high rate of speed in Berlin Township around 3 p.m. Wednesday when it crossed the centerline and struck an oncoming SUV.
Two of the three children were ejected from the Wagenaar vehicle. Police say 17-year-old Peter Wagenaar and his 11-year-old sister, Morgan, died at the scene from their injuries. Iris Wagenaar and her 14-year old sister, Harley, were critically injured and are at Southshore Hospital in Trenton. They were last listed in critical but stable condition.
The driver of the other vehicle, a 43-year-old woman from South Rockwood, was also hurt.
Police say they don't believe that alcohol was a factor in the deadly crash, but are trying to determine what led the Wagenaar vehicle to lose control.
Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact the Monroe County Detective Bureau at 734-240-7530.
