Teen Critically Injured In Freeway Crash
A Detroit teen, who missed an exit and was backing up on I-94 on Detroit's eastside, was critically injured when his car was rear-ended by another car.
Michigan State Police say the 17-year old missed his exit at Conner Avenue. As he backed up, the car moved partially in the right hand lane and was hit.
Conditions of the teenager and second driver were unknown Sunday morning, although Michigan State Police said the teen received "a critical injury."
Troopers closed eastbound I-94 near Conner for several hours after the crash, which happened around 6:25 p.m. Saturday.
Monday, State Police said they were not yet releasing any further information about the teen's condition, due to the sensitive nature of the incident. The incident is still under investigation.
Early Sunday, Michigan State Police, with the help from Detroit and Hamtramck officers, closed two other freeways for accident investigations.
The express lanes of I-96 were closed near Greenfield after a rollover accident. I-75 also was shutdown for a short time near Caniff because of an accident investigation. Police say there were injuries in each wreck, but the extent of the injuries was unknown.
Police say the time change may have played a part in the accidents because people could stay out an extra hour.
Investigations pending in all three accidents.
