Teen Charged With Robbing State Lawmaker At Gunpoint
DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police say an 18-year-old was arrested and is facing several charges in connection with the robbery of State Representative Jimmy Womack over a month ago.
Rodsco Williamson was arraigned Wednesday in 36th District Court on charges of armed robbery, carjacking and felony firearm. He was jailed on a $250,000 cash bond and is due back in court on Aug. 27. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said the teen was arrested Tuesday by Detroit Police.
Prosecutors say the charges stem from an incident on July 8 that occurred at 8 p.m. at a store located on McNichols near Second Avenue in Detroit.
Womack told reporters he was getting into his car outside of the store when three men approached him with guns drawn. Womack said the assailants first demanded his car but he refused. According to the lawmaker, one man said, "Just take his money," and the trio got away with around $300.
Womack was not injured during the incident.
An investigation is ongoing.
