Teen Charged, 1 Still At Large In Attempted Armed Robbery
FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) - A 19-year-old Farmington Hills man has been arraigned on armed robbery charges while police continue to search for his alleged accomplice.
The Oakland County Prosecutor's Office charged Terry Mays on Tuesday with one count of armed robbery, one count of first degree home invasion and two counts of possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was jailed on a $100,000 bond and is expected to be in court for a preliminary examination on Wednesday.
Police say Mays and another man broke into a home on Cora Street in Farmington Hills on Monday and allegedly held the homeowner at gunpoint in an attempted robbery.
The homeowner told police she opened the front door slightly after someone knocked on it and a man asked for a woman who did not live in the home. The woman reportedly said she closed the door after a brief conversation and got ready for work.
When she later opened the door between her home and garage, she saw Mays allegedly standing in her garage, pointing a handgun at her head. The woman said she quickly shut and locked the door, ran to another room and called 911.
Police responded to the 911 call around 2 p.m. and found two men walking on Orchard Lake Road who matched a description given by the woman. When officers tried to approach the suspects, the men ran into a neighborhood along 10 Mile Road, between Middlebelt and Orchard Lake.
Two helicopters and more than a half-dozen police cars swarmed the neighborhood searching for the men. Police said they eventually caught Mays after a foot pursuit, and found a bag and the suspected gun that was used in the incident.
The second suspect involved has not been arrested or charged and remains at large. He's described as a black man in his 20s, about six feet tall with medium build.
