Teen Busted Selling 'Weed Treats' At School
MACOMB (WWJ) - A Macomb high school student is facing drug charges after authorities say he passed some shady snacks around school.
Macomb County Lt. John Michalke says a teacher at Dakota High School became suspicious when he saw students passing caramel corn around the classroom.
Michalke said the teacher smelled the snack, confiscated it, and called police.
"They were marijuana-laced edibles —weed treats," Michalke told WWJ Newsradio 950's Sandra McNeil.
Michalke said it turned out that the snacks came from an 18-year-old student who has a medical marijuana card.
Michalke said the corn wasn't the only "weed treat" the student had. He had others in his backpack that looked like s'mores, Fruit Loops, and Fruity Pebbles cereal.
"It's not illegal for someone with a medical card to posses marijuana, but I don't know about that particular form," said Michalke. "It certainly is not appropriate for them to be on the school premises first of all, and then for them to be resold."
Michalke said they're releases this information to the media in hope that parents will pay close attention to what their teens are snacking on.
The teen, whose name was not released, told school officials he'd purchased the edibles from a medical marijuana dispensary for $4 each and then sold some to other students.
He was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.
