Taylor Man Charged In Death Of 6-Week-Old Daughter
TAYLOR (WWJ) - Prosecutors say a 23-year-old Taylor man is responsible for the beating death of his 6-week-old daughter.
Louis Smolen on Tuesday was arraigned on charges of first degree felony murder and first degree child abuse in the death of Payton Smolen.
Last Saturday around 9:40 a.m., police received a call about a baby not breathing at an apartment in the 15450 block of Park Village, near Eureka and Inkster roads. The infant was taken to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Authorities say the baby suffered from head trauma and other injuries, allegedly at the hands of Smolden.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said further details of the crime will be presented in court at Smolen's preliminary examination on Dec. 16.
