Taxpayers Will Pick Up $1.2 Million Tab Defending Governor In Flint Water Crisis
LANSING (WWJ) - Democrats are complaining that taxpayers are getting stuck with legal fees -- after Governor Rick Snyder hires lawyers in regards to the Flint water crisis.
Even though there are seven floors of lawyers in the Attorney General's office Governor Rick Snyder has decided to hire two outside legal councils to help him deal with the Flint water crisis says WWJ Lansing Bureau Chief Tim Skubick.
Senate Democratic leader Jim Ananich calls it a waste of taxpayers money.
"It seems like, 'why would we pay $1.2 million on the governor's personal private attorneys?' It doesn't make any sense," said Ananich.
He says that there are pressing needs in the state that, "would rise to a lot higher level then him getting a separate set of his own personal attorneys ... why are the taxpayers paying for it?"
