Tampa Bay's Yzerman Named NHL's General Manager Of The Year
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Steve Yzerman of the Tampa Bay Lighting has been named the NHL's general manager of the year.
Yzerman accepted the trophy Wednesday night at the NHL Awards show in Las Vegas.
The Lightning reached the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 2004 after a steady franchise rise under Yzerman, the Detroit Red Wings' Hall of Fame center. Tampa Bay set franchise records with 50 wins and 108 points before winning Game 7 twice on the way through the East bracket.
The Lightning lost the final in six games to Chicago, but Tampa Bay has reached two Eastern Conference finals during Yzerman's five years in charge of owner Jeff Vinik's franchise
Glen Sather of the New York Rangers was second, and Anaheim's Bob Murray was third.
