Giant Pumpkin: 1725 Lbs. And Growing

A Washington Township man squashes the competition by growing a pumpkin weighing 1,725 pounds.

Farmer Ken Sweet has been growing pumpkins for about 10 years and has since perfected the art of the giant pumpkin.

He attributes his super-sized pumpkins to several factors including "very good organic soil, lots of water, keeping the plant as healthy as you possibly can."

Sweet's favorite part of growing pumpkins is how much they can change in just one day.

"They can put on 30-40 pounds a day when they're really putting on the weight," he said. "To see something physically move and grow day-to-day is amazing"

Sweet says there's still another week of weigh-offs but if no other pumpkin beats his out he could be named Grower of The Year.
