Barricaded Gunman In Sterling Heights Surrenders
STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) - Guns, alcohol and a domestic argument made for a potentially explosive situation overnight in Sterling Heights.
WWJ's Ron Dewey reports a man had barricaded himself with weapons at his home on Dodge Park for 5 and-a-half hours before he gave himself up without incident.
Sterling Heights Police Lieutenant Luke Riley told reporters that patience paid off.
"When you have a situation where there is no... other parties in the residence or in the building where this is occurring, there's no rush to go in and make an entry," Lt. Riley said.
"Usually, you will wait them out as long as you can. Time is on our side," he said.
Police said the standoff was the result of a domestic situation overnight. The man texted his girlfriend, who then called police to tell them of an argument that the man was having with his wife.
Two shots were fired, but no one was injured. Police were able to get the wife out of the house safely, before the gunman eventually surrendered.
The man remained in police custody, Wednesday, awaiting charges.
