Suspicious Package Stops Traffic In Ann Arbor
ANN ARBOR (WWJ) - A portion of Ann Arbor's downtown was closed to traffic for a time, Friday, after a suspicious package was found near the Blake Transit Center on 4th Avenue.
It was a false alarm, and all streets have since reopened.
Ann Arbor Police Lt. Angela Abrams told WWJ it turns out the package was just a special edition promotional item for the new movie "Thor".
Clearly visible inside the package was a grayish-brown box with three toggle switches and a vial of liquid labeled "neuro toxins".
Abrams said it was unclear who left the package on the sidewalk in "an area where there should not be packages just left behind."
She added that the package was so suspicious, a bomb squad officer said he didn't even want his dog near it.
The scare caused a two-hour halt to bus traffic and the loss of lunch hour business to local restaurants. The bus terminal was evacuated, and all pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the area was shut down.
Michigan State Police are investigating.
