Suspicious Package Scare On Grand Rapids Streets
GRAND RAPIDS (AP) - Grand Rapids police closed some downtown streets for about three hours near Grand Rapids Community College after a suspicious package was reported.
The Grand Rapids Press reports it turned out to be a plastic tote left by construction workers containing equipment used to test soils.
Police evacuated and closed the school's field house on Friday morning as a precaution. They called in a bomb squad with a robot to examine the container.
A nearby hospital remained open as authorities investigated in the area. Grand Rapids Community College ended up delaying the start of classes.
